A Northern Christian progressive group has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to appoint a Northern Christian politician as Director-General of the President’s 2027 re-election campaign.
The group said the appointment would promote greater political inclusion, strengthen support for the APC in Northern Nigeria, and encourage unity among different communities across the country.
The Secretary of the group, Rev. Hayap Musa Danladi, made the appeal in a statement issued to journalists in Kaduna, where he expressed the group’s continued support for Tinubu’s administration and possible re-election bid.
Danladi said Northern Christians have played an important role in Nigeria’s political development and should be given greater representation in strategic campaign positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
He referenced the appointment of former Plateau State Governor Solomon Lalong as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, describing the move as a major contribution to the party’s success.
The group urged President Tinubu to consider appointing another experienced Northern Christian politician to lead the 2027 campaign structure, saying such a decision would strengthen confidence and address claims of religious imbalance made by opposition groups.
Danladi added that greater inclusion of Northern Christians would promote national cohesion, mutual respect, and a stronger sense of belonging among Nigerians.
He encouraged citizens to move beyond religious and ethnic divisions, stressing the need for cooperation and collective efforts toward national development.
The leader of the Northern Christian Youth, Mr. Zakaria Bitrus Gwasshi, also praised the Tinubu administration, highlighting what he described as efforts toward economic growth, security improvement, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
Gwasshi expressed confidence that continued political inclusion would help strengthen democracy and promote unity among Nigerians.
