The investigation into the killing of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chieftain Toba Ijaya has taken a fresh turn following claims by veteran Ibadan broadcaster Kola Olootu that a vulcanizer has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Olootu made the allegation during a recent broadcast, a video of which has since circulated widely across social media platforms.
Toba Ijaya was reportedly attacked by unidentified gunmen along Ikorodu Road while returning home from Fadeyi, where he spent his childhood. He later died from injuries sustained during the attack and was buried amid tributes from family members, friends, and associates.
Speaking during the broadcast, Olootu alleged that investigators had uncovered a new lead after discovering that Toba had earlier given a vulcanizer ₦4,000 before the attack.
He further claimed that the vulcanizer allegedly sent a voice note saying, “He is coming, be at alert,” but mistakenly delivered the message to the wrong person. According to the broadcaster, the suspect was later arrested over his alleged involvement in the incident.
However, the Nigeria Police Force has not confirmed the reported arrest or authenticated the alleged voice note. Authorities have only maintained that investigations into the killing are still ongoing.
As of the time of filing this report, the claims regarding the voice note and the alleged arrest remain unverified pending official confirmation from the police.
The development has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing differing opinions while urging security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
