The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using state institutions to advance its political interests ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing reports that a known Tinubu ally was contracted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for election logistics and the attendance of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the inauguration of the City Boy Movement.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC argued that the developments raise serious concerns about the neutrality of Nigeria’s electoral and security institutions.
The party said assigning election logistics to an individual it described as a long-time political associate of the President, alongside the participation of a serving police commissioner at a partisan event, could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
The ADC called on both INEC and the Nigeria Police Force to explain the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
Meanwhile, the City Boy Movement defended the presence of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the inauguration of its Lagos chapter, insisting that his attendance should not be interpreted as political endorsement or evidence of bias.
In a statement signed by its National Director of Media Monitoring and Rapid Response, Bashir Ahmad, the group said public criticism over the commissioner’s appearance was misplaced.
Separately, the City Boy Movement in Ogun State distanced itself from a group operating under the name “CityBoy Likeminds,” declaring that it is not recognised or affiliated with the organisation.
In a statement signed by the movement’s General Secretary, Adeyemi Ajasa, the group said CityBoy Likeminds does not form part of its national, state, local government, ward or polling unit structures.
Ajasa warned the promoters of the group to stop activities capable of misleading the public and creating confusion among supporters of the movement.
He reaffirmed the City Boy Movement’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation and political awareness in support of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stating that the organisation remains focused on strengthening its structures across Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement also urged members and the public to engage only with its officially recognised leadership and disregard any unauthorised groups claiming to represent it.
