Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Abduction of Military Recruits
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested two men suspected of being involved in the abduction of three newly graduated military recruits in Zamfara State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Bashir Usman, the suspects were arrested on August 1 during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspects were identified as Abubakar Mallan Abubakar, a resident of Gargam village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu from Ajera, Ilorin, Kwara State.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects confessed to taking part in the abduction of the recruits along the Kwanan Mayanchi-Gurusu section of the Anka/Bukuyum Road in Zamfara last month.
One of the victims, Kabiru Hassan, is from Ribah in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the other two recruits are from Zuru Local Government Area.
The police confirmed that all three recruits have since regained their freedom.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar Hadejia, praised the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tracking down and prosecuting everyone connected to the kidnapping.
