SMEDAN Reopens ₦50,000 Grant for Small Businesses
Small business owners across Nigeria can now apply for the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Conditional Grant Scheme, which offers a one-time ₦50,000 grant to eligible nano and micro businesses.
The grant is non-repayable, meaning beneficiaries will not have to pay the money back. It is aimed at helping small businesses strengthen their operations, expand, and improve productivity.
Job creation requirement
To qualify for the grant, successful applicants must employ at least one additional worker. According to SMEDAN, the scheme is designed not only to support businesses financially but also to create more jobs across the country.
Purpose of the scheme
SMEDAN said the Conditional Grant Scheme was introduced to make funding more accessible to small businesses that may struggle to secure traditional bank loans.
Unlike loans, the ₦50,000 grant comes with no interest or repayment, as long as beneficiaries meet the programme’s conditions.
The agency added that the initiative is expected to promote entrepreneurship, boost local businesses, and stimulate economic growth at the grassroots level.
SMEDAN also clarified that the programme is different from the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme, although both provide ₦50,000 grants to qualifying nano businesses.

The scheme targets nano and micro enterprises operating in local government areas across Nigeria.
