OSUN POLLS: ADELEKE RAISES ALARM OVER ALLEGED EFCC PLAN TO FREEZE OSUN ACCOUNTS BEFORE ELECTION.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is planning to freeze the bank accounts of the state government and some top officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Wednesday, the governor said he made the allegation during a meeting at the Government House in Osogbo on Tuesday.

According to Adeleke, the alleged move is aimed at disrupting government activities in the days leading up to the election. He described the plan as unlawful and said there is no legal basis for freezing the accounts of a state government.

“The plan to freeze the state government’s accounts is intended to cripple government operations before the governorship election,” the statement said.

The governor also insisted that the EFCC has no constitutional or legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said he would respond to the allegations but had not done so at the time this report was filed.

Adeleke is seeking a second term on the platform of the Accord Party, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) is working to regain control of Osun State after four years in opposition.

The state has experienced growing political tension in recent weeks, with reports of clashes between supporters of rival parties ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

At a campaign rally in Olorunda Local Government Area on Monday, Adeleke appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the violence, warning against a repeat of the political crisis that affected the South-West in 1983.

He also reminded the president that the Accord Party in Osun had already endorsed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, urging him to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election.

According to the governor, all the people of Osun want is a free, fair and violence-free election.
