TINUBU INTERVENES, DIRECTS EFCC TO VACATE COURT ORDER FREEZING OSUN ACCOUNTS TO ENSURE FAIR PLAY IN ELECTORAL PROCESS.

Tinubu Orders EFCC to Unfreeze Osun Government Accounts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to immediately approach the court to lift the order freezing the Osun State Government’s accounts and discontinue all related actions.

According to a statement, the President said he was deeply embarrassed by the timing of the account freeze, especially with the Osun governorship election just days away.

Tinubu explained that although the EFCC acted under a court order and within its legal mandate, every action taken by a federal institution is often attributed to the President, whether or not he was aware of it beforehand.

“Every action taken by an institution of the Federal Government is always credited to me as President, even when I may not have had prior knowledge of it,” he said.

The President reaffirmed his commitment to the independence of anti-corruption and law enforcement agencies, stressing that he has consistently avoided interfering in the operations of the EFCC and other investigative bodies.

However, he maintained that the timing of the action was inappropriate, given the proximity of the Osun governorship election.

Tinubu said nothing should be done that could create the impression that the EFCC or any other federal agency was being used to influence or interfere with the electoral process.

He therefore instructed the commission to take immediate steps to have the court order vacated and ensure that the affected accounts are unfrozen.
