A son of the late Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has reportedly joined the terrorist organisation, raising concerns over the possible continuation of his father’s militant ideology and influence.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama identified the individual as Ibn Mohammed bin Shekau and said he had reportedly begun taking steps within the group.
The reported development has attracted attention because of Shekau’s prominent role in the Boko Haram insurgency, which caused widespread destruction and loss of lives across Nigeria’s North-East and neighbouring countries.
Abubakar Shekau became the leader of Boko Haram following the death of the group’s founder, Mohammed Yusuf. Under his leadership, the organisation carried out numerous attacks targeting communities, security personnel, government institutions and civilians.
The emergence of his son within the group could raise concerns among security agencies, particularly over the potential revival of networks or ideological influence associated with the late insurgent leader.
However, the report of his alleged affiliation with Boko Haram has not been independently verified, and further details about his role within the organisation remain unclear.
