SAUDI ARABIA CONDEMNS COLOMBIA’S RECOGNITION OF ISRAEL’S SOVEREIGNTY OVER OCCUPIED SYRIAN GOLAN HEIGHTS

Saudi Arabia Condemns Colombia’s Recognition of Israel’s Sovereignty Over Golan Heights

Saudi Arabia has condemned Colombia’s decision to recognise Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, describing the move as a violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction and administration over the occupied Golan Heights “null and void” and without legal effect.

The Kingdom said Colombia’s position does not contribute to regional peace, arguing that it undermines the established international position on the Golan Heights and encourages the imposition of faits accomplis.

Saudi Arabia reiterated that the Golan Heights remain occupied Syrian Arab territory and stressed that any actions aimed at changing their legal status cannot create rights or confer legitimacy.

The Kingdom urged Colombia to reconsider its position, respect international law and relevant UN resolutions, and support efforts toward security, stability and a just and lasting peace in the region.
