Activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has responded to Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following a heated exchange on social media over Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The controversy started after Sowore criticised Governor Adeleke’s leadership, accusing him of poor governance and questioning some of the administration’s claims about road construction across the state.
Sowore also alleged that political control of Osun State had effectively become concentrated within the Adeleke family.
Davido subsequently reacted to Sowore’s comments on social media, calling the activist “arindin”, a Yoruba word commonly used to describe a foolish or unreasonable person.
The singer’s response quickly attracted widespread attention online.
Rather than backing down, Sowore responded on his official X account and turned the “arindin” label towards Governor Adeleke.
He also questioned the governor’s educational background, alleging that Adeleke obtained an equivalent of a GED after previously serving as a senator.
Sowore further criticised Adeleke over his reported support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to the activist, the governor’s decision to back Tinubu was allegedly motivated by a desire to protect the Adeleke family’s political influence in Osun State.
Sowore wrote:
“The real arindin is your uncle, @AAdeleke_01, who had to go back and obtain the equivalent of a GED after he had already served as a Nigerian Senator.”
He further accused the Adeleke family of treating Osun State as a private estate and alleged that political loyalty was being used to protect their interests.
Sowore also described the political establishment as “oppressive, corrupt, incompetent, and entitled”, adding that Nigerians would eventually demand a change.
The exchange has since generated mixed reactions among social media users, with some supporting Sowore’s criticism while others accused him of taking the political disagreement too far.
One commentator, @drbak_, noted that “arindin” literally means an imbecile in Yoruba and questioned who the term should apply to in the dispute involving Sowore, Davido and the Adeleke family.
Another user, @BuilderOlusise, accused Sowore of being dishonest over his comments about road construction in Osun and challenged him to contest for political office himself.
Meanwhile, another commenter, @fansubscriber, defended Sowore’s position and argued that the Adeleke family’s support for Tinubu and the APC ahead of 2027 had created contradictions in their political stance.
However, @oluwafemi_69071 urged both sides to tone down the rhetoric, arguing that political disagreements should not become personal attacks or involve serious allegations without evidence.
Another user, @AchonwaIsreal, defended Governor Adeleke’s record, arguing that his administration had delivered more projects than previous governments and that the people of Osun should ultimately decide who governs them.
The online clash comes amid heightened political activity in Osun State ahead of the governorship election, with political figures, supporters and celebrities increasingly engaging in public exchanges over the state’s leadership and its political future.
