PDP DECLARES FULL READINESS FOR 2027 ELECTIONS, ASSURES IRI DELEGATION

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to democratic governance and declared that it is fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.

The party made the position known while receiving a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI), which visited Nigeria as part of efforts to assess the country’s political and electoral preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.

The PDP appreciated the delegation for its continued interest in strengthening democracy across Africa, noting that members of the team had recently observed the Osun State governorship election.

The party said the outcome of the Osun election demonstrated the willingness of voters to participate in the democratic process and choose their preferred leaders.

The PDP stated that it remains a party committed to representing the interests and aspirations of Nigerians, adding that its objective is to provide responsible leadership to the electorate.

The party also highlighted its longstanding presence across the country, noting that it has remained a major political platform for more than two decades and maintains structures across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the 774 local government areas.

The PDP said discussions with the IRI delegation would provide an opportunity to outline its plans and political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It further assured the delegation that the party was prepared to participate actively in the forthcoming elections.

Earlier, IRI African Regional Director Jenai Cox said the organisation’s pre-election assessment mission was in Nigeria to engage with different stakeholders ahead of the 2027 polls.

Cox explained that the delegation was examining the level of electoral preparations, the activities of political parties and other developments that could influence the country’s democratic process.

The engagement forms part of broader efforts by the IRI to understand Nigeria’s political environment and assess preparations ahead of the next general election.
