2027: SDP Women Demand Greater Representation in Politics
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has launched a nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign aimed at increasing women’s participation and representation in politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The initiative is focused on encouraging more women to become actively involved in the political process and take up greater responsibilities within the party and across the country.
Speaking on the development, the party’s women leaders stressed the importance of creating more opportunities for women to participate meaningfully in decision-making and political leadership.
They argued that women constitute a significant part of Nigeria’s population and should therefore have a stronger presence in elective and appointive positions.
The mobilisation is expected to extend across different communities as the party seeks to strengthen its grassroots structure and encourage women to become more involved in political activities.
The SDP women also called for an environment that would allow female politicians to compete more effectively, noting that financial limitations, political structures and other challenges have continued to restrict women’s participation.
They maintained that greater inclusion of women would strengthen the political system and provide a wider range of perspectives in governance.
As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, the party’s women wing is expected to continue its grassroots engagement and sensitisation efforts in a bid to attract more women into active politics.
The move forms part of broader efforts within the SDP to expand its support base and build stronger participation at the grassroots ahead of the next general election.
