Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has dissolved the existing committees responsible for tackling illegal mining and approved the creation of a new eight-member task force to strengthen the fight against the practice and environmental degradation in the state.
The new task force will be led by Major A. M. Ghali as Commander, with Captain K. R. Odenusi serving as his deputy. Other members include ASP Ishaku Daniel, Iziogo Philip, Olakunde D., Kabiru Musa, Zibai Ayuba and Suleiman Daniel.
According to the state government, the team will be responsible for enforcing directives against illegal mining and the destruction of forests across Taraba. It will also receive operational support from relevant security agencies.
The task force is expected to work alongside the mobile court established under existing executive orders and submit regular reports through the office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The latest move is part of the administration’s intensified efforts to curb illegal mining. The governor had previously suspended mining activities across the state over security concerns, while enforcement operations resulted in the arrest and dispersal of hundreds of illegal miners.
