The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has commenced a 2026 crisis response exercise in Delta State to assess Nigeria’s preparedness and coordination mechanisms for handling major emergencies.
The exercise is designed to test the country’s crisis management structures, strengthen cooperation among relevant security and emergency agencies, and identify areas that may require improvement when responding to serious national threats.
The exercise in Delta is expected to involve different stakeholders working through simulated crisis situations to assess how quickly and effectively authorities can coordinate their response.
ONSA said the exercise forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national crisis response capabilities and ensure that institutions are better prepared to manage emergencies.
The assessment is also expected to provide useful lessons that can be applied to improve coordination, communication and decision-making during real-life emergencies.
