GOVERNOR ENO PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR NIPP LOT 18 TRANSMISSION PROJECT

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged the state government’s support for the completion of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) Lot 18 transmission line along the Ikot Ekpene–Ikot Abasi axis.

Governor Eno made the pledge when he received a delegation of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, at the Government House in Uyo.

The governor said the state would intervene to address the challenges delaying the completion of the 330kV transmission line, stressing that the project would improve electricity supply across Akwa Ibom and boost development in the state.

He noted that reliable electricity was essential to expanding economic opportunities and improving the standard of living of residents.

Speaking during the meeting, Adighije said the project had been stalled for several years due to outstanding wayleave compensation owed to communities affected by the transmission line.

She appealed to the state government to assist in resolving the compensation and community-related issues to enable NDPHC to complete the project.

According to her, the transmission project, which commenced about 20 years ago, has faced several setbacks over the years.

Adighije also commended Governor Eno for his willingness to support the project and congratulated the state on the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC).

She expressed NDPHC’s readiness to work with the state government to develop an effective electricity market framework.

News Summary: Governor Umo Eno has pledged government support to resolve the challenges delaying the NIPP Lot 18 transmission project, which is expected to strengthen electricity supply and support economic development in Akwa Ibom.
