Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has called on Nigerians to make the necessary sacrifices needed to build a country that reflects their collective aspirations.
Oborevwori made the call during the 66th Independence Thanksgiving Service held at Living Faith Church on Ibusa Road in Asaba, Delta State.
The governor urged both present and future generations to uphold values such as sacrifice, courage, patriotism and resilience, which he said were important to the country’s development.
He also paid tribute to Nigeria’s founding fathers for the sacrifices they made toward achieving the country’s independence, urging citizens to demonstrate their love for Nigeria by continuing to pray for peace, stability and prosperity.
Oborevwori stressed the importance of prayer and encouraged the church to continue interceding for the nation.
Speaking on governance and leadership, the governor reminded politicians, civil servants and other public officials that their positions are held in trust for the people.
He urged those in public service to make the welfare of citizens their priority and to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and commitment to the common good.
According to him, public officials should remember that they will ultimately be accountable for how they discharge the responsibilities entrusted to them.
