Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his position with immediate effect, becoming the latest political appointee to leave the governor’s administration.

Ogunwuyi announced his resignation in a letter dated Monday, 12 October 2026, stating that his decision took effect from the same day.
In the letter, he expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for the opportunity to serve the government and the people of Oyo State, describing his time in office as an honour and a fulfilling experience.
He said he was proud to have been part of the team responsible for implementing the administration’s programmes and contributing to the state’s growth and development.
Ogunwuyi also expressed confidence in Oyo State’s continued progress despite his departure from office, reaffirming his loyalty to the state and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

However, he did not disclose any specific reason for his resignation in the letter.
His departure comes amid the exit of several political appointees from Makinde’s administration in recent months, drawing attention to the changing political dynamics within the Oyo State Government.
There have been speculations about Ogunwuyi’s level of commitment to the governor’s political activities, although he did not link his resignation to any political disagreement or disclose his next move.

Ogunwuyi previously served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly before representing Ogbomoso North, South and Oriire Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
He later joined Makinde’s administration as Chief of Staff, a position that placed him at the centre of the governor’s administrative and political operations.
His resignation also comes as Governor Makinde’s reported presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections continues to shape political discussions. Makinde is associated with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in connection with the reported ambition.
Ogunwuyi has not announced whether he intends to pursue another political appointment or seek elective office.
