MATAWALLE LEADS EIGHT SUSPENDED ZAMFARA LAWMAKERS TO TINUBU, REAFFIRM LOYALTY TO APC

Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has led eight suspended members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, held on Sunday, followed the lawmakers’ recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid disagreements within the party in Zamfara State.

According to a statement issued on Monday by Ahmad Dan-Wudil, Matawalle’s Personal Assistant on Media, the lawmakers reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu and their commitment to the ruling party.

Matawalle also pledged to integrate the legislators into the Tinubu Again Movement (TAM), where they would work towards supporting the President and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara, representing Talata Mafara South; Ibrahim Tukur Bakura, representing Bakura; Faruk Musa Dosara, representing Maradun I; Bashir Abubakar Masama, representing Bukkuyum North; Muktaru Nasiru Kaura, representing Kaura North; Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru North; Bashar Bello, representing Bungudu West; and Bashar Aliyu, representing Gummi I.

The eight legislators were suspended by the State House of Assembly on February 26, 2024, over allegations of gross misconduct, conspiracy and holding an unauthorised sitting. Their suspension was extended on May 13, 2026.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, had maintained that the suspension arose from disciplinary issues within the legislature and predated the lawmakers’ recent political decisions.

In their resignation letters, the legislators cited alleged injustice, divisions among APC stakeholders in the state and concerns over the handling of insecurity as reasons for leaving the party.

Their meeting with Tinubu comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections and efforts to address political disagreements within the ruling party.

Although the lawmakers have reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the APC, the outstanding issues surrounding their suspension from the Assembly remain separate from their political affiliation.
