Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has recalled his longstanding friendship with Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, revealing that they shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago.
Otedola made the disclosure on Monday, October 19, 2026, following a dinner he hosted in honour of Hamzat, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

In a post on his X account, the businessman described Hamzat as a man of integrity whose character he had known for nearly five decades.
Otedola wrote that he hosted the dinner in honour of Hamzat, whom he described as the incoming governor of Lagos State, recalling their shared boarding school experience.
He also praised Hamzat’s personal qualities, highlighting his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.
According to Otedola, his longstanding relationship with Hamzat has given him years of firsthand experience of the deputy governor’s character.

The dinner brought together some of Nigeria’s most prominent business figures, including Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu.
The gathering was held at Otedola’s residence on Sunday and provided an opportunity for the business leaders to meet in honour of Hamzat as he pursues his ambition to lead Lagos State.
Rabiu also acknowledged the gathering in a social media post, describing the evening as one filled with friendship and meaningful conversations. He wished Hamzat success in his bid to become the next governor of Lagos State.

Hamzat, who has served as deputy governor since 2019, emerged as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election following the party’s selection process.
Otedola’s public endorsement adds to the support Hamzat is receiving as the political contest to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approaches.
The businessman’s recollection of their school days also highlights the longstanding personal relationship between the two men, which dates back nearly half a century.
