ADC RIFT DEEPENS AS GOMBE FACTION CAUTIONS ABDULLAHI OVER USE OF PARTY NAME

A new tension has surfaced in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and the National Working Committee (NWC) issued a stern warning on Sunday to Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the David Mark-led faction. The warning cautioned him against issuing statements in the party’s name, noting that any unauthorised use of its name or logo could trigger legal action.

The leadership dispute, which is currently before the courts, has left the party divided. In a statement signed by Nafi’u Bala Gombe and Rufus Ikanmi, Secretary of the BoT, the party made it clear that Abdullahi is not authorised to speak for the ADC. The statement advised that Abdullahi could join the party only by following the proper membership registration process at his political ward in Kwara State.

The leadership also directed banks and financial institutions to immediately halt any transactions linked to party accounts by individuals or groups claiming to represent the ADC without authorisation. The statement warned that any further dealings—including loans, withdrawals, or fund transfers—would be treated as financial crimes and economic sabotage, and offenders would face prosecution under relevant laws.

“The African Democratic Congress remains a party for all Nigerians, and membership is open to everyone through the established registration process,” the statement read.

This latest move underscores the ongoing struggle for control within the party and reflects heightened caution from the Gombe-led faction to safeguard the ADC’s assets, name, and organisational integrity ahead of upcoming congresses and conventions.

Related developments include the scheduled reconstitution of the ADC National Working Committee from April 3–5, and ongoing preparations for ward, local government, and state congresses ahead of the national convention set for April 14.
