#Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno Dissolves Cabinet, Praises Outgoing Officials

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has dissolved his cabinet, terminating the appointments of all commissioners and special advisers.

The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Eno Uwah, who directed the outgoing officials to hand over to their respective permanent secretaries or the most senior directors where no permanent secretary is available.

Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the former cabinet members for their dedication and contributions to the development of Akwa Ibom State. He wished them success in their future endeavors.

Governor’s Remarks at Valedictory Meeting

Speaking during a valedictory Executive Council meeting held at Government House in Uyo, Governor Eno clarified that the dissolution was not a reflection of non-performance but rather a strategic move to usher in a new phase of governance.

“…If you were to be changed based on non-performance, I think none of the commissioners would go. All of you have delivered, and that’s why the Arise Agenda has succeeded,” the governor said.

He added, “We must come to the end of a season, start another season, and keep moving.”

Similar Actions in Nasarawa State

This development follows a similar decision by Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, who dissolved his cabinet on January 3, 2024. During a special emergency meeting at the Government House in Lafia, Governor Sule also relieved the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Muhammad Aliyu-Ubamdoma, of his duties.

In Nasarawa, permanent secretaries were directed to assume control of ministries and government affairs until new appointments were made. Governor Sule emphasized the need for a more efficient governance structure, a sentiment echoed during his previous cabinet reshuffle in 2021.

These changes reflect ongoing efforts by state governments to restructure their administrations for improved efficiency and effectiveness.
