#APC Youths Detained After Visiting Impeached Lagos Speaker Obasa at Assembly Complex

Security agents have arrested several All Progressives Congress (APC) youths who visited the Lagos State House of Assembly in support of the recently impeached Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.

Details of the Arrest

The youths, reportedly from Agege, Obasa’s constituency, were detained on Tuesday and transported in a Black Maria stationed near the Assembly premises. A video shared by News Central captured one of the detainees speaking from the vehicle, revealing that over 20 individuals were being held.

The detainee expressed frustration, stating that security operatives had provided no clear reasons for the arrests. The group also called out for basic necessities, including food and water, while awaiting further action from the authorities.

Background

On Monday, the Lagos State House of Assembly impeached Mudashiru Obasa following allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office.

Obasa, previously accused of spending ₦17 billion on a gate for the Assembly, was replaced by Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker and representative of Apapa Constituency 1. Mojeed Fatai has since been appointed as the new Deputy Speaker.

The impeachment and subsequent arrests have added to the controversy surrounding Obasa, who has faced scrutiny over his financial dealings and leadership style.

Current Situation

The arrested APC youths remain in detention as security agents continue their investigation. Their detention has raised questions about the circumstances leading to their arrest and the treatment of political supporters in such situations.
