A statement released early Wednesday explained that the curfew was imposed to disrupt the activities of suspected terrorists and to support an ongoing security clearance operation in the area.

The statement added that all forms of human and vehicular movement are banned throughout the district during the curfew, noting that the restriction will be reviewed and updated as the security operation continues.

In a similar development, the chairman of Edu Local Government Council, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, announced a 24-hour curfew in the Gbugbu community, including the well-known Gbugbu market.

The curfew in Edu LGA came into effect at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. According to a statement issued by the Edu LGA Council Media Team and Communications Strategic Unit, the measure was introduced to ensure the safety of lives and property while security agencies conduct operations in identified locations within the community.

The statement stressed that both pedestrian and vehicular movements are prohibited during the curfew period, describing the decision as a necessary security step, with assurances that residents would be informed of any further developments.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to strictly comply with the curfew directives as security agencies continue their operations.
