The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Alayeluwa Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, paid a New Year visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, earlier today.
Expression of Gratitude
According to a statement issued by the Aafin Awujale and signed by the Onigegewura Akile Ijebu, Aremo Tunde Oladunjoye, the revered monarch expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for the conferment of the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on him. This honor was bestowed on May 10, 2024, during celebrations marking the monarch’s 90th birthday and his 64th anniversary as the longest-serving first-class monarch in Nigeria.
The honor was presented on behalf of the President by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima during the historic occasion.
A Reciprocal Connection
The visit also highlighted the deep bond between the President and the Awujale. Notably, President Tinubu began his nationwide consultations for the presidency from the Awujale’s palace in Ijebu Ode and, after his election, returned there to fulfill his promise of appreciation to the influential monarch.
The New Year meeting between the two leaders was private and held behind closed doors.
