Traditional rulers in Lagos State’s Badagry Division have urged that the governorship seat be zoned to their area in 2027, citing justice, equity, and fair representation. The call was made on Monday during a media briefing led by the Aholu of Kweme Kingdom, Oba Olalekan Sejiro, in Badagry.
Oba Sejiro emphasized that Badagry, despite its historical and economic contributions to Lagos and Nigeria, has never produced a governor since the state’s creation in 1967. “Today is not just about politics; it is a defining moment in the history of our people and our state. It is a moment to speak with one voice in the interest of justice, fairness, and balanced representation in the political future of Lagos State,” he said.

The traditional ruler highlighted Badagry’s strategic importance as a historic gateway connecting Nigeria to the West African sub-region, its border position with the Republic of Benin, and its potential in logistics, tourism, and regional economic integration.
“Badagry is rich in history, strategic in location, and enormous in economic potential. Our contribution to the growth of Lagos State is undeniable, and our relevance to the future of the state remains critical,” he added.
Oba Sejiro also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, praising initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, economic reforms, infrastructure development, and flagship projects like the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which he said reflect the President’s commitment to national development and connectivity.
The traditional rulers made it clear that their appeal is rooted in unity and good faith, seeking fair political inclusion rather than confrontation.
