Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Yankamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and kidnapping three other residents.
The incident happened late Saturday night and caused widespread fear in the quiet farming village, as most people were already asleep when the armed men invaded.
Police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the attack, stating that security teams had been dispatched to pursue the culprits.
“Our personnel are on the trail of the kidnappers, and efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims and restore normalcy,” Kiyawa told our correspondent.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers rode into the area on motorcycles but parked on the outskirts, proceeding into the village on foot to avoid attracting attention.
One resident, who requested anonymity, described the killing of the elderly woman as tragic.

“She begged them not to take her son,” he said. “But they ignored her plea, shot her, and went away with the young man.”
The gunmen also attacked another residence, abducting two women, one of whom is the ward councillor’s sister-in-law.

As at the time of this report, security operatives were reportedly searching surrounding forests in an effort to locate the victims and capture the attackers.
