A member of the guard attached to the Emir of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello has reportedly died after armed bandits ambushed the entourage along the Mayanchi–Anka Road in Zamfara State.
The deceased, identified as Jamilu, was known for traditionally holding the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella during official outings. Reports indicate he sustained gunshot wounds during the attack on Sunday afternoon. He was rushed to Gusau General Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

Security analyst Bakatsine, who shared details of the incident on X, described it as a tragic reminder of the growing insecurity along highways in the region. “This tragic incident once again shows the growing insecurity along our highways and the dangers faced daily by citizens,” he said.
Efforts to reach the Zamfara State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The attack underscores the persistent threats travellers face across Zamfara State, where bandits operating in rural and forested areas have repeatedly targeted communities and major highways. Security analysts and residents continue to call for stronger measures to safeguard citizens and protect vital roadways.
