Nigeria’s Basic Education Curriculum Expands with 15 New Subjects
The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the addition of fifteen new subjects to the basic education curriculum. This expansion aims to equip students with practical skills and enhance their employability after graduation.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) disclosed the changes in a press statement released on Friday, January 24, 2025. The updated curriculum, which includes trade-oriented subjects, will be implemented across primary and junior secondary schools nationwide starting in January 2025.
New Subjects in the Basic Education Curriculum:
* Plumbing
* Hairstyling
* Makeup
* POP (Plaster of Paris) Installation
* Tiling and Floor Works
* Event Decoration and Management
* Bakery and Confectionary Arts
* Satellite/TV Antenna Installation
* Solar Installation and Maintenance
* Garment Making
* Interior Design
* GSM Repairs
* Agriculture and Processing (including crop production, beekeeping, and horticulture)
* Livestock Farming (including poultry and rabbit rearing)
* Basic Digital Literacy (including IT and robotics)
