The directive, issued by Governor Bala Mohammed, affects markets in Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi, and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas.

According to a statement from the Governor’s media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, the decision followed intelligence reports indicating that some of the affected markets were being used as operational hubs by criminal groups.

The markets were allegedly linked to cattle rustling, illegal arms trading, ransom negotiations, and other forms of criminal financing that have contributed to insecurity and instability in surrounding communities.

Authorities noted that proceeds from stolen livestock were being used to fund further violent activities, thereby worsening the security situation and disrupting local economic activities.

Alkaleri Local Government Area was particularly affected, with several markets including Alkaleri, Mansur, Futuk, Yalo, Gwana, and others among those shut down.

Governor Mohammed directed security agencies to enforce full compliance with the closure order and warned that the suspension will remain in place until noticeable improvements in security are achieved.

He also instructed traditional rulers and local authorities to ensure strict monitoring and prevent any illegal trading activities during the suspension period.
