#Benue University Lecturer Arrested for Alleged Kidnapping of ASUU Chairman’s Wife

Dr. Tersagh Ichor, a lecturer at Joseph Saawuan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM), has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the abduction of Mrs. Susan Anyagh, the wife of the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chairman.

The spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, Sewuese Anene, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Makurdi.

The Kidnapping Incident

Mrs. Anyagh was reportedly kidnapped on December 7, 2024, along Otukpo Road in Makurdi by armed men. She was later found unconscious by the roadside in Ameladu, Gboko Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.

Upon receiving the report of the kidnapping, the Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, mobilized patrol officers and checkpoints across the state to secure her rescue and apprehend the perpetrators.

Around 2:00 PM the same day, authorities received further information that the victim had been attacked by her abductors and abandoned unconscious along the Yandev-Ugbema Road.

She was identified and rushed to a Primary Healthcare Clinic in Ameladu, where she regained consciousness and narrated her ordeal to the police.

Victim’s Account

Mrs. Anyagh recounted that she was driving from the NNPC Mega Station in Kanshio after collecting money from a customer when she stopped to assist people who appeared to need help along Otukpo Road.

“They quickly entered her car, pointed a gun at her, and ordered her to drive toward the Wurukum area,” the police spokesperson explained.

Mrs. Anyagh recognized Dr. Tersagh Ichor, a colleague of her husband, standing nearby as the incident unfolded. She called out to him for help, but he allegedly turned his back and walked away.

While in the vehicle, her abductors received a phone call from Ichor, who allegedly instructed them to kill her. Panicked by this, Mrs. Anyagh became agitated.

Upon approaching a police checkpoint, the abductors reversed the car to a secluded spot, forced her out of the vehicle, and robbed her of ₦1,350,000 she had in her car. They then used a vehicle jack to strike the back of her neck, leaving her unconscious by the roadside.

Arrest and Investigation

Following her account, the police arrested Dr. Ichor in connection with the case. According to Anene, the investigation is ongoing to unravel the full circumstances of the crime.

Authorities have assured the public that justice will be served and urged anyone with additional information to come forward.
