The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by former Osun State Governor and ex-Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has officially announced its departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement signed by Oluwaseun Abosede, the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting across the 332 wards in Osun State, held in Ilesa. The statement, released on Sunday, highlighted several reasons for the group’s exit, including marginalization, suspension, and expulsion of its members without due process.
Reasons for Exiting the APC
The Omoluabi Progressives accused the APC of sidelining its members, failing to resolve internal crises, and neglecting the group’s contributions to the party’s structure. These issues, according to the statement, led to a significant decline in the APC’s popularity and poor performance in recent elections.
The group’s leadership conducted a voice vote, during which members unanimously agreed to align with another political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Aregbesola’s Address to the Group
During the meeting, Aregbesola commended members for their loyalty to the principles of integrity, good governance, and character. He emphasized that their departure from the APC marked the start of a new political journey aimed at restoring responsible leadership in Osun State.
“I am indeed happy that all of you have spoken with one voice—a united front to lead the way to our collective victory in the journey ahead,” Aregbesola stated.
He added, “Our mission is to elevate the prosperity of Osun State through responsible leadership. The path we have chosen is smooth and full of promise, one that will propel our state to greatness. You must show greater commitment and attract genuine people who are ready to walk this path of righteousness with us.”
Future Plans for Omoluabi Progressives
Aregbesola assured members that efforts to reposition the Omoluabi Progressives for future political challenges would soon bear fruit. He noted that the group remains open to all, regardless of political, religious, or socio-cultural affiliations.
“We have the numbers, strength, and political acumen to lead Osun State into a new era of prosperity. By the grace of God, we shall succeed,” he affirmed.
This move signals a significant shift in Osun’s political landscape as the Omoluabi Progressives prepare to redefine their role in the state’s governance and development ahead of the 2026 elections.
