Former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has expressed full backing for the party’s decision to adopt a consensus candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Omisore, who was among seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee over alleged breaches of party rules and electoral laws, said he accepted the outcome after receiving guidance from President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking on TVC News’ Politics Tonight on Wednesday, he emphasized the importance of aligning with the party leader’s direction and confirmed his readiness to support the consensus plan.
“The president has spoken, and as loyal party members, we must abide by his directive,” he stated.

Describing himself as “an old wine that tastes better,” Omisore said he has no regrets about his political past and maintains a strong support base. He noted that while he had offered different ideas to party leaders, he remains committed to implementing the President’s position.
Omisore also said he would officially inform his supporters about the development and highlighted the need for the APC to strengthen its internal strategy ahead of the 2026 governorship contest.

Earlier on Monday night, President Tinubu met with aspirants, who unanimously endorsed his preferred candidate—although Omisore was not present at the meeting. The President urged them to unite and embrace the consensus option before the December 13 primary.
Aspirants at the meeting included Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

Top APC figures such as National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, SGF Senator George Akume, Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma, and Marine & Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola were also in attendance.
After the meeting, the aspirants and leaders jointly agreed to support the consensus arrangement and avoid actions that could disrupt party unity. They further pledged to work collectively to secure victory for the APC in the 2026 Osun governorship election and ensure stability in the state.
