Residents of Egbe town in Kogi State’s Yagba West LGA have raised concerns over a new bandit tactic involving chemical sprays to sedate victims before abduction.

Two incidents on Monday, November 24, 2025, confirmed the threat. In Odorum, bandits targeted the home of an ECWA Hospital staff member, spraying a substance described as similar to “turari” that caused weakness. Two people were kidnapped, while one resident, who avoided being in his usual room, managed to alert security forces. Vigilantes arrived, fired warning shots, and rescued the victim.

Later, near Baba Labourer/Government Secondary School, another abduction attempt was foiled by Egbe vigilantes, preventing any kidnappings.

The community has praised local vigilante groups for their bravery and swift response, noting their role in averting further attacks.

The incidents follow recent kidnappings in Okoloke, where gunmen seized a timber supplier and a worker while on a farm, highlighting a rising wave of violent crimes in Yagba East and West, particularly near the Kwara State border.

Authorities and residents continue to monitor the situation, with early reports indicating no casualties in the latest attacks.Headline news
