The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Niger State.

The students were among 315 people taken during a bandit attack on the remote school on November 21, 2025. Following the assault, 50 pupils escaped within the first day, but 265 others remained in captivity until today’s partial release.

In response to the crisis, authorities imposed a 24-hour security cordon, launched aerial surveillance across three states, and ordered the indefinite closure of schools in high-risk regions. President Bola Tinubu cancelled international travel to focus on the situation.
