The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned protests over insecurity and economic policies following talks with the Federal Government.
The decision came after a late-night meeting on Tuesday, facilitated by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who led NLC leaders to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

When discussions resumed in the early hours of Wednesday, both Governor Uzodimma and NLC President Joe Ajaero briefed journalists on the outcome. Uzodimma said President Tinubu’s intervention was decisive and that a new framework for sustained engagement between the government and labour unions had been established.

Ajaero, who headed the NLC delegation, explained that labour accepted the assurances given by the Federal Government, describing them as encouraging steps. He added that the union’s leadership would consult its members before taking a final position.
The talks followed a surge in attacks by bandits and terrorist groups on communities, churches, and schools across the country in recent weeks, prompting President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on security.
