BREAKING: TINUBU APPOINTS FIRST FEMALE DG OF NIGERIAN LAW SCHOOL

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given approval for the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, effective from January 10, 2026.

The four-year appointment will see Dr. Odusote take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, who is scheduled to complete his eight-year tenure on January 9, 2026.

The development was made public in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2025, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

At 54, Dr. Odusote currently serves as the Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and heads its Lagos Campus. Her elevation marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first woman to lead the institution since it was founded in 1962.

According to the statement, President Tinubu approved her appointment to oversee the law school’s affairs for a four-year term beginning in January 2026. It further noted that she will succeed Professor Chiroma following the expiration of his tenure.

Dr. Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtained a Master of Laws degree from the same institution, specialising in company and commercial law, before earning a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom. Her academic interests focus on public law and the administration of justice.

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has since occupied several key positions, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Campus Head. She also briefly served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Throughout her career, Dr. Odusote has contributed widely to legal scholarship, publishing in reputable local and international journals and presenting papers at numerous legal education conferences. She has also served on committees under the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, she will oversee the academic and administrative operations of the Nigerian Law School nationwide, provide strategic leadership across all campuses, and serve as the main link between the institution, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.
