BREAKING: Tinubu Departs Abuja for South Africa, Angola

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Wednesday leave Abuja for Johannesburg, South Africa, and later Luanda, Angola, for two major international engagements — the G20 Leaders’ Summit and the AU-EU Summit.

According to a statement by Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will first attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit scheduled for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

He noted that President Tinubu was invited by South African President and current G20 Chair, Cyril Ramaphosa. Brazil’s President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, had also extended an invitation during his own tenure as G20 President in 2024.

The summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will focus on inclusive economic growth, development financing, disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transition, food systems, critical minerals, decent work and artificial intelligence.

Tinubu is also expected to hold several bilateral meetings aimed at strengthening cooperation on peace, security and economic development in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

After the G20 meeting, the President will proceed to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit taking place from November 24–25. Discussions at the summit will centre on climate action, infrastructure, the digital economy, manufacturing, agribusiness, and the creative sector.

Tinubu will travel with senior officials including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister Wale Edun, Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake, Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after concluding the engagements.

With this trip, President Tinubu has now made 17 international journeys across 12 countries in 2025, and at least 44 foreign trips since assuming office in 2023. These trips have included summits, bilateral meetings, international inaugurations and official visits, alongside a few personal breaks.

In October, Tinubu returned from Rome after attending the Aqaba Process Meeting, shortly after completing a 10-day vacation in Europe where he met French President Emmanuel Macron.
