The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to shut down on or before Friday, November 28, due to heightened security concerns.
In a memo issued on Tuesday, Aishatu Sani Alhassan, Director of School Services at the FCT Secondary Education Board, instructed principals and school heads to halt all academic activities immediately and ensure students are released “in an orderly and safe manner.”
The memo, titled “Urgent Need for Early Closure of Schools Due to Security Concerns,” also ordered schools to inform students, staff, and parents about the decision, adjust all academic schedules accordingly, and prepare for resumption on the next official school day unless new instructions are given.
School authorities were urged to treat the directive as “important and urgent.”
The decision comes amid rising attacks on schools by armed groups in parts of northern Nigeria. Earlier on November 12, the federal government ordered the temporary closure of all Unity Schools nationwide following deadly school attacks in Kebbi and Niger states.
