#Budget Implementation Extended: NASS to Prolong 2024 Budget Until June 2025, Says Akpabio

The federal government plans to extend the implementation of the 2024 budget until June 30, 2025, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Akpabio made the announcement on Wednesday during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly. He revealed that the legislative process to formalize the extension is underway and will be submitted to the president for approval soon.

Commending Tinubu’s Bold Reforms

In his address, Senator Akpabio lauded President Tinubu for his transformative policies, which are reshaping Nigeria’s economic landscape. He specifically highlighted key legislative initiatives, such as the Tax Reform Bill and the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Bill 2024, as pivotal to achieving the administration’s goal of a prosperous and technologically advanced nation.

Accountability in Budget Processes

The Senate President also called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure timely and active participation in the budget defence process. He emphasized the importance of accountability, warning that the National Assembly would not hesitate to sanction MDAs that fail to appear for budget sessions or cause unnecessary delays.

The announcement and subsequent deliberations underline the legislature’s commitment to aligning the nation’s fiscal framework with its development objectives.
