CONGRESSES WILL HOLD DESPITE INEC DISPUTE, KADUNA ADC INSISTS

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State says it will push ahead with its preparations for the 2027 general elections despite the ongoing leadership dispute.

Speaking at a press briefing on Sunday, the party’s state leader and former Minister of State for Education, Lawal Tukura, accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of misinterpreting a court ruling that directed parties to maintain the “status quo ante bellum.”

Tukura argued that INEC wrongly applied the ruling by removing the party’s leadership structure from its portal, describing the move as deliberate and misleading.

According to him, the party’s national leadership, after consulting its legal team, resolved to challenge INEC’s interpretation in court. However, he stressed that this would not stop the party’s political activities.

He confirmed that all planned congresses — from ward to national level — would go ahead as scheduled, including the party’s national convention set for April 14.

“We believe INEC’s interpretation is wrong, and we will challenge it legally. But in the meantime, our activities will continue without interruption,” he said.

The party also used the opportunity to criticise the Federal Government over security concerns, saying the protection of lives and property remains its primary responsibility.

It warned that failure to address insecurity could push the country toward instability, adding that improving security would be a top priority if the party comes to power in 2027.
