COURT ORDERS FINAL FORFEITURE OF N3.44BILLION, THREE PROPERTIES LINKED TO EX-NNPC OFFICIAL JAMARI

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the permanent forfeiture of N3.44 billion and several high-value properties linked to former Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) executive, Salihu Nuhu Jamari, over alleged corruption and money laundering.

Justice J. O. Abdulmalik delivered the ruling on Tuesday, approving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) application for the final seizure of the assets.

The forfeited sum, N3,444,000,000, along with three properties, was traced to Jamari during his tenure as Managing Director of NNPC’s Gas and Power Investment Company Limited (NGPIC). The properties include an uncompleted six-bedroom semi-detached duplex with boys’ quarters in Asokoro, Abuja; a two-bedroom apartment in Osborne Phase II, Ikoyi, Lagos; and a restaurant in Lokogoma District, Abuja.

The court’s decision follows an interim forfeiture order granted in February 2026, which allowed the assets to be publicly advertised for claims. No objections were filed within the stipulated time, clearing the way for permanent forfeiture.

Court filings indicate that the forfeited assets are connected to an ongoing investigation into alleged bribery, kickbacks, money laundering, and conspiracy within NNPC involving staff and contractors.

Jamari’s involvement came to light following a petition in April 2025, prompting EFCC scrutiny. Investigations revealed that he allegedly used his position at NGPIC to facilitate illicit financial gains through private companies under his control, namely Cumulus Energy Limited and Pius and Phillips Petroleum Limited. These entities were reportedly used to receive kickbacks from contractors awarded major NNPC projects.
