According to a community source who spoke anonymously, the violence broke out around 10 p.m. on Saturday when armed cultists stormed the area and began shooting. The attack was reportedly linked to a confrontation between the Aiye and Eiye confraternities.

The source said the victims included a police officer identified as Olamilekan, who served at the Obalende Division in Ijebu-Ode, and another man whose identity had not been confirmed. The gunfire caused panic among residents as the assailants fled.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed the incident on Sunday but said he was still awaiting a full report. “I can confirm that a police officer was a victim. I am still waiting for the details of what really happened,” he said.

The incident adds to a series of recent attacks on police personnel. Last Tuesday, five officers were killed and two injured in what police described as an ambush in Sabon Sara village, Darazo LGA, Bauchi State. Three days earlier, another officer was killed in the Federal Capital Territory while trying to stop gunmen from abducting residents.Headline news
