The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested former House of Representatives member Aliyu Gebi over allegations that he circulated false intelligence reports to foreign embassies in Nigeria.
Gebi, who served in the 7th National Assembly, was reportedly arrested on April 3, according to sources familiar with the development.

Security insiders allege that the former lawmaker shared misleading intelligence with diplomatic missions, sparking tension among international partners. One source claimed the reports were taken seriously enough to disrupt travel plans, with airlines like Lufthansa cancelling scheduled flights to Nigeria, while British Airways reportedly considered similar action.
Another source said the same intelligence may have influenced a travel advisory issued by the United States Department of State, which urged non-essential personnel to leave Nigeria over worsening security concerns.
However, the Nigerian government has pushed back against such claims, insisting that while security challenges exist, the situation is not as dire as portrayed. Authorities have also called on international partners to rely on accurate and balanced information.

Although the exact content of the alleged reports remains unclear, sources say the development created diplomatic unease, prompting engagements between Nigerian officials and foreign missions.
Gebi, who has held several roles within Nigeria’s security framework, is said to have been granted bail but remains under investigation. He has reportedly been making regular appearances at DSS headquarters and is expected to face formal charges once investigations are concluded.
Before his arrest, Gebi had served as a special adviser on security matters, focusing on non-kinetic strategies such as conflict prevention, early warning systems, and responses to insurgency.
