Jatau explained that the abduction occurred at around 7:00 p.m. on December 21, 2025.

He said, “On December 21, 2025, 25 children were kidnapped in Sabon Layi while travelling together to attend the Maulud celebration. The kidnappers disguised themselves as vigilantes and stopped the children for routine checks. It was then that they were abducted to an unknown location.”

According to him, security agencies, particularly the DSS, immediately launched a manhunt, resulting in the safe rescue of all the children, who were unharmed. He also noted that three of the victims had previously escaped on their own.

Jatau added that among the rescued were six girls and 19 boys, all of whom were medically examined and certified fit to return to their families.
