EDO HEALTH CENTRE SERVING 7,000 RESIDENTS CRUMBLES AMID NEGLECT – REPORT

The facility reportedly caters to more than 7,000 residents across Ojavun, Emai, Evbiamen and surrounding communities, but is now said to be in a state of severe neglect and structural damage.

According to the group, parts of the building were damaged by strong winds, leaving sections exposed and close to collapse, while essential medical equipment has been destroyed. It further alleged that despite its condition, the health centre is still recorded as functional in official data, describing this as a disconnect between administrative records and real-life conditions.

The organisation expressed concern over the broader issue of rural healthcare infrastructure, arguing that attention and development efforts are often concentrated in urban areas while rural communities remain underserved.

It also criticised political representation in the area, claiming that interventions have not adequately addressed the facility’s condition and questioning the effectiveness of current development priorities.

The group called on both the Edo State Government and the Federal Ministry of Health to urgently intervene and rehabilitate the facility, stressing that residents deserve access to functional and reliable healthcare services.
