#Breaking News: El-Rufai Dismisses Defection Rumours as Fake News

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has categorically denied rumours of his alleged defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party. He described the reports as baseless and labeled them as “fake news.”

Taking to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, El-Rufai urged the public to disregard the rumours, adding that his legal team had been instructed to take action against those spreading the falsehood.

“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” he wrote.

Aide Denounces Mischief Makers

An aide to El-Rufai, who spoke anonymously, also dismissed the rumours in a telephone interview, attributing the claims to mischief makers.

“It is the handiwork of mischief makers. The report is entirely false. The former governor has not joined the PDP or any other party,” the aide stated.

Social Media Reports Debunked

The rumours, which began circulating on Sunday via some online platforms and social media posts, alleged that El-Rufai had returned to the PDP and obtained a party membership card in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna North, in preparation for a 2027 presidential bid.

El-Rufai’s denial and the statement from his aide aim to clarify the false narrative and reiterate his continued association with the APC.
