Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following fresh court proceedings.
El-Rufai, who had briefly left custody on March 27, 2026, after the death of his mother, was re-arraigned on Tuesday.
He first appeared before the Kaduna State High Court over a separate charge filed by the ICPC. However, the absence of a co-defendant stalled proceedings, forcing the court to adjourn the case until April 10, 2026.

He was later taken to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application is pending. The court had earlier fixed March 31, 2026, to hear the application.
The former governor is facing 10 counts bordering on fraud, money laundering, abuse of office, and unlawful possession or conversion of public funds—allegations he has denied.
The ICPC arraigned him alongside Joel Adoga, who is named in only one of the charges, while El-Rufai is listed in all 10 counts. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.
El-Rufai has been in custody since February 18 following an earlier court order, which was renewed after his arraignment on March 24.
