Former Ayodele Fayose has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could face collapse if Peter Obi does not secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
Speaking to Channels Television during the PDP National Convention, Fayose described Obi, a two-term former governor of Anambra State, as a “great guy” and credited him with playing a significant role in the 2023 general elections.

“If Obi is not on the ballot of ADC, that is the end of ADC. It looks like that now that Obi will not (be on the ballot),” Fayose said.
He added that with Rabiu Kwankwaso returning to the PDP and Atiku Abubakar likely to secure the party’s presidential ticket, Obi’s options were limited.
Fayose also ruled out the possibility of Obi returning to the Labour Party (LP), saying, “That is impossible; there is a wedge everywhere. Obi is a good, fantastic guy, but to become president at this time is difficult.”

Reflecting on Obi’s performance in 2023, Fayose emphasised that his success was largely personal, not party-driven: “PDP is not Obi. Obi did not ride on the strength of his party. If Obi goes to Accord now, he will make some impact more than ADC. We are talking about a person,” he stated.

PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION UPDATE
Over 2,000 delegates from across Nigeria are attending the convention in Abuja, organised by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee. Some factions, including the Tanimu Turaki group, are expected to boycott the event.

The venue, decorated with the PDP colours and symbols, saw delegates seated at the stadium velodrome and going through accreditation and security checks.

Former Okezie Ikpeazu, chairman of the convention planning committee, confirmed that 2,503 delegates were expected to participate and stated that reconciliation talks would continue to resolve ongoing crises within the opposition party despite the absence of some leaders.
