The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has categorically stated that the purported Federal Government N50,000 Child Support Grant for all Nigerian parents, currently circulating on social media, is entirely false.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Rhoda Iliya, the Ministry’s Director of Information, labeled the information as fake news.
The statement strongly cautioned parents to be vigilant and wary of the activities of fraudsters attempting to deceive them through this online scam.
“We are not aware of any such registration portal. If the Ministry were to undertake any such programs, there would be a comprehensive public awareness campaign,” the statement emphasized.
“Nigerians are urged to exercise caution and avoid falling victim to these online scammers. Please alert your families, friends, and well-wishers not to apply for this fraudulent program,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government recently announced the approval of N4 billion for conditional cash transfers to vulnerable households across Nigeria.
During the launch of the 2025 Nigeria Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan at the United Nations House in Abuja on Thursday, Professor Nentawe Yilwada, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, outlined several interventions aimed at addressing the country’s escalating humanitarian crisis.
This initiative is projected to provide crucial support to at least 10 million displaced households, with a primary focus on the most vulnerable members of society.
The cash transfer program is scheduled to commence in February and continue through April, prioritizing the immediate needs of families affected by displacement, particularly in the Northeast region.
Furthermore, the government has approved N2 billion in interest-free loans for farmers, specifically those residing in rural communities, to bolster food production and enhance self-sufficiency.
Professor Yilwada stated, “We are prioritizing women, particularly widows, pregnant women, and individuals with disabilities. The experiences of displaced women, especially those facing pregnancy or disabilities, present unique and significant challenges. We acknowledge these vulnerabilities and will continue to provide unwavering support to those most in need.”
“The President has approved the Ministry’s plan to initiate the disbursement of conditional cash transfers to 10 million displaced households between February and April. This initiative aims to provide critical support to those most in need, particularly vulnerable families affected by displacement,” the Minister concluded.
