The Office of the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, hosted the formal handover and finalization process for the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State. The event marked a significant step in the establishment of the institution, with the Honorable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, presenting the official documents to Vice President Shettima, who subsequently handed them over to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
Speaking at the high-level meeting, Vice President Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, emphasized that the establishment of the university aligns with the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education, promoting innovation in applied sciences, and strengthening Nigeria’s educational system. He highlighted that the initiative is a key part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of education reform, youth empowerment, and human capital development.
The Vice President also acknowledged the ongoing infrastructural progress in Kaduna State, commending the inclusive and people-centered governance approach of the state administration. He assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting Kaduna’s development efforts and confirmed that funding for the university’s takeoff has been allocated in the 2025 budget. The institution is expected to commence academic activities in September 2025.
Governor Uba Sani, in his remarks, expressed optimism about the university’s potential impact on Kaduna State and its residents. He noted that the institution would create employment opportunities, attract investments, and bridge educational disparities by providing access to affordable, quality tertiary education. He further assured the Federal Government of Kaduna State’s full cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition and sustainable operations for the new university.
As part of the finalization process, Governor Sani confirmed that the Certificate of Occupancy for the university would be handed over to the Minister of Education within the next seven days.
